Self-Reflection
In my first blog I wrote about how I what types of methods I would use in my future as a teacher, and some tools I would use. I know in this blog we are supposed to tell some things that we would change about our first evaluation of my future as a teacher. I said that I would always be there for my students and would always try to put them first. I would used methods that would involve the three types of learning styles and incorporate them in some way in my lessons. I would keep a stern fist, but I would always be a gentle spirit towards them. I want my children to have a inspiring and inviting atmosphere for them.
In EDM 310, I've learned a lot more stuff that I didn't write about in my first blog post, but that doesn't mean I would change anything about what I said before. I would be a very comforting and helpful teacher. Now that I have EDM 310 under my belt, I would like to add that I would use technology in certain lessons where there is research and some sort of learning going on. If they school would allow me to I would like to have some sort of Ipad at each desk and have them use it to complete projects or do school work. I think that more technology should be in more schools and that every child should have access to a place where they can learn when teachers aren't around.

Blog Post #14
CourseSmart E-Textbooks
In this blog, there is a new technology that is being explained and spread among teachers in schools at the collegiate level. It's is E-Textbooks. In these textbooks teachers can keep up with what students have read or what they haven't. This provides an oppurtunity for teachers to see certain study habits for students. The spread of this technology has been to eight different schools and is continuing to spread.
I think that this technology at a teachers point of view would be a great piece of technology. I would use it in a lot of different ways such as a grading tool to grade on what the children have read. I could use it to see who has been studying the required readings. This would also let me know why or why not a student is struggling.
My reaction to this new technology would probably make me as a student not want to read but have to read the text book to refrain from trouble with teachers. It would probably increase my study habits and reading habits. It would kind of force it on me but would be a good thing for students.
Well since I'm not a hundred percent sure what this technology has to do with helping or benefiting to students. I would ask the teacher what exactly does this technology do to students grades or how does it effect them. I see how it can help teachers to learn what the student is doing but how does it help the student.
If I were to ask the students anything, it would be about how this technology has effected them as students. I would also ask if it has caused problems with their class average. If I had to add to the comments on this article I would probably ask the question, "How does this technology effect students, I mean does it fail them if they don't read the book for the acquired course?" For years students have not read a book but passed classes with flying colors. Isn't this technology a waste of money?

Connor C. from Mrs. Geldes Class
Connor is from Mrs. Geldes class I'm not sure what grade or what class he is in when he wrote this. He wrote his blog post about Nebraska. I'm not sure if he's from there or what but in his post he wrote that the land was good for farming, they were hardworking farmers, their state bird was the Western Meadowlark,and many other facts about the state of Nebraska. At the end of his blog he wrote the question for viewers and "Where do you live? What animals are there? What are some cities at your state?" For my comment on his blog I answered his question and told him he had written a good blog post and should tell us more about the state.

In Libby's blog Libby's Latest News, she writes a post called Buddies. According to what I have read it's a system where students in higher grades spend quality time with younger students on certain days of the week. Libby is sharing her buddy Elyssa with a friend named Emma. This system would be a great idea to bring to elementary schools to teach them to care and to help the younger children, and to encourage them also. Melissa B's "The Scholastic Scribe"
The blogpost "Two Turtle Doves" describes the last semester of senior year for high schoolers where they are getting ready for college. They are getting recommendation and have papers written from teachers to write for them, and filling out applications. She describes how big of a struggle it is for teachers to do this for their students and to stop the amount of kids that need this she goes over 10 points where you can keep the GPAs up and make colleges want you.
1. Fewer meetings, just for the sake of meetings. - In her words, "We were told that we need more time to meet with one another, face-to-face. That makes less face time with the kids, but more time talking about how we teach them. Give me a break."
2. Less time talking about how we all need to be friends. - Yes, we know we're all in this together. That's a given. But I don't need to be besties with all of my colleagues in order to get along with them.
3. More focus on academics. - Pretty much explains itself.
4. Less focus on athletics. - Probably a losing battle, but please see Number 3. Also, that's why, I hear, he wears loafers.
5. More "Attaboys." - Give more "good jobs" out to kids, encourage them more expecially since its the last of the year.
6. Additional recognition for those who've fought the good fight - and won. - Give examples of past students of how they made it through the struggle and now have made something for themselves.
7. More of an attempt to recognize that "new" is not always "best." - I certainly understand the new principal's desire to put his stamp on things, but that doesn't need to be accomplished at the cost of besmirching those who have come before him.
8. Additional openness to ideas that are "out there."
9. More of a focus on student and staff safety.
10. More of an effort to try to understand the other guy. - No one's going to hear you if you don't recognize that your opponent has a valid point to make, as well.

In Melissa's blog, she writes about a situation where she was able to go home early from work one day and was on the last few tests to grade when a student walks in. She asked her help with some things that she has been thinking about. How she took the time to help the student and put her on the right path. This blog reminds me that as a teacher I should always take the time out of my free time to help my future students to always lead them on the right path.

The Blended Learning Cycle
In his video he explains a cycle that he uses when he teaches his science classes. in his video he uses the word Quivers. (and yes as in a bow and quiver that holds arrows)I would compare this to the scientific method. For the first phase of his cycle he uses "Qu" which he uses question. Here you state the question. The next letter is I, which is for investigation which is where you research the information for the question. Next letter is "V", which is video where you watch videos on the subject which you are studying. Next is "e" for elaboration, where you have the information and develop it and put it together to fully understand the previous question. The last is "R" which is for review, which is where you look over what you have done.
My thoughts on the cycle is a great idea, because it can be used for any subject. You can use it to solve math problems, do science projects, or even write a research paper. Everyone could use this to learn on their own. They can use it to find information and learn more about the subject on their own.

Creating My Own Blog Post Assignment for EDM310
For this week's blog post, I will be creating my own assignment for the EDM310 class. Dr. Strange has went over a ton of things for technology with us, but I think that he should've gave us an assignment for the subject of Math. In this assignment he should have told us to look up different types of technology or anything that would help teachers to teach their students math. If I were the student and I had to do this I would choose a game of some sort to help the kids have fun but learn at the same time. I would list webpages such as:
1. www.primarygames.com
2. www.abcya.com
3. www.cookie.com
Of course the level of education I am going to school to learn to teach for is elementary, so these sights would be perfect for games about math and they would have fun learning. Also if the children have Apple products there are tons of game that they could find and use to help their children learn.
There is technology for math also online. There are different sites that offer worksheets and tests for you to go by such as http://www.edzone.net/~mwestern/elemath.html. There are youtube videos such as "Teaching Mathematics with Technology"

Ms. Cassidy's 1st Graders
In the video, Dr. Strange and the EDM310 class of the 2010 school year, skyped and talked to Ms. Cassidy and her class blog. She discussed how she started out with a blog and how it came to be in her class. She said that one year her class acquired 5 laptops and she figured this was the starting point of the use of technology in her classroom. She then talked to her principal about a class blog for the children to write their own post and let people around the world see it. She said that she explained to them that they should always be nice and comment nice things, not to write their last names, and to not put pictures of themselves on their blog for privacy reasons. She took the attempt of technology to allow them to learn from others. She wanted them to realized that they can use technology to contact other classes or people to learn from them. She called a biologist to talk with kids on Skype. She wanted them to know that technology was their to learn more they could in the classroom. If I taught the younger children such as K-2 I would use the blogging to help them learn to spell and type sentences. I would allow them to play educational games to learn math, science, and other subjects. The one benefit I could see happening in my future for my kids would be the games on the internet. I believe it would make them more interested in learning because it would be fun and educational at the same time. (coin the phrase killing two birds with one stone)

Micheal Vaughn's "World Shaker" - 15 iPad Skills Every Teacher and Student Should Know
In Micheal's blog, he is showing educators and students 15 different apps that you can download to your iPad to help with educating and learning. He has shown us apps that create digital stories and eBooks, create videos and audio clips, help improve their reading skill, show how to use Whiteboards, take notes and create written content, create mind maps and digital profolios, share their content, help with homework, and do research on their iPads. For his blog I asked him to tell me of ways to communicate with other students for situations such as group work or questions on different problems they are having with the iPad.
Micheal Vaughn's "World Shaker" - Why we should stop criminalizing practices that are confused with plagiarism?
In Micheal's blog, he is informing us on the reasons why we should stop the decriminalize certain practices now described under the rubric of plagiarism. In his post he posted the titles to four book that he said is a must read for people grappling with these issues. The titles are:
1. “The Little Book of Plagiarism,” by Richard A. Posner, a federal judge, a law school lecturer, and a prolific author, who writes persuasively on issues of plagiarism and copyright infringement.
2. “The Anxiety of Influence,” by Harold Bloom, a legendary scholar and critic from Yale, who considers the patterns of influence that govern how one author learns from another.
3. “Stolen Words,” by Thomas Mallon, a novelist and practical scholar who delves into a long history of literary theft, practiced by some of the most honored authors in the canon of English and American literature.
4. “City Editor,” by Stanley Walker. An influential New York City editor in the 1930s, Walker includes a chapter on the questionable literary and journalistic standards of his day.
The main focus on this subject in the blog is 10 statements:
1. "The so-called act of “self-plagiarism” is not plagiarism." - This statement can be paraphrased as this, "All successful writers “re-purpose” their work for profit and influence, but they should always be forthright with potential publishers on whether the work is brand new or recycled."
2. "So called “patch writing” — as long as it credits sources — is not plagiarism."
3. "Inadequate paraphrasing of a credited source is not plagiarism."
4. "Use of a clever or apt phrase — up to the level of the sentence — is not plagiarism as long as you thought of it independently, even if you find that others have used it before."
5. "Literary allusions — even a mosaic of esoteric ones — are NOT plagiarism."
6. "Boilerplate descriptions of news, history, or background are not plagiarism."
7. "Ghost writing is not plagiarism."
8. "Writing for genres — such as the legal brief or the sermon — in which there is a long tradition of borrowing without attribution is not plagiarism."

Ian from Mrs. Goerend's 5th Grade Class
On Ian's blog, he posted the difference between an unhealthy meal and a healthy one. For example, for his unhealthy menu he put that he would eat double quarter powder with cheese,premium crispy chicken classic sandwich ,mc flury with rolo ,hi-c orange lavaburst,world famous fries,mc cafe frappe macho and in all he would have eaten 2,826 calories. For his healthy meal he would eat spicy chicken mcbites,minute maid premium orange juice,soft backed sugar cookies,world famous fries,apple slices,dasani water and in all he would have consumed 718 calories. There's a big difference here. The question or suggestion I gave to Ian is to tell how many calories there were on each item in the mcdonalds menu.
Bethany from Mrs. Lentines 7th Grade Class
On Bethany's blog, she described her dog "Lil Bit". She said it was part lab and explained that she didn't see her/him very much because she lives at her grandmas. I simply asked her if she would put a picture of her dog. This would make her blog interesting and everyone would see what her dog looked like she was talking about.
Heremaia
Heremaia wrote her blog about Easter. She explained the real meaning of Easter, saying that it wasn't just about the bunny or the eggs. It is really about Jesus and Him dying on the cross for us. She also explained where we adopted the eggs and why they refer to Jesus. I told Heremeaia that I loved her post and that it really impressed me that she knew this much about Easter.
Hunter from Mr. Boylen's 8th Grade Language Arts Class
Hunter is a student at the MFL Mar Mac Middle School in Iowa, and is blogging in his Language Arts Class. In his blog post, he posted a question, "What do you think as a student gain from blogging with students and others outside of the school? Is it worth the time? Why/Why not?." Hunters response was ,"To get children talking to people they don’t know. It will help kids who are not the most social. It gives them something to do." I told him these were good statements, but I thought that he should think about how it helps get ideas around about a particular subject/ problem. It would help us learn what others think about projects/ problems. You could get really good information from teachers or people that have researched from the subject.

I'm A Papermate, I'm A Ticonderoga
I studied this picture for a while and didn't realized what point Mr. Spencer was trying to get at. Well the saying under the first guy says,"I'm a Papermate, I cost less, but I break all the time." This says to me that the papermate pencil is a little less expensive that the other but it breaks all the time. So you would have to buy more pencils and you would have to spend more money to buy more pencils. When on the other hand for the Ticonderoga Pencil, you can buy one and would last longer. The price for one Ticonderoga pencil would be more that papermate but you wouldn't have to buy as many. I guess you could use this in a situation of teaching, when you have a choice to go the cheaper way and have to do it more times, or go the long way and last a long time.
Why were your kids playing games?
In this blog post by Mr. John T. Spencer, he is showing a conversation about a principal and a teacher talking about a game that he/she has played in the classroom. The principal has decided that no more games should be played at school. They say that he/she should be doing school work like algorithmic worksheets and Jonestown Intervention worksheets. Then the teacher changed the whole thing around with a game that creates an algorithm factory and integrate it into our Conflict-Oriented Reading and Writing Project (a.k.a. The Factory Game). This means that we as teachers can use things that bore children and turn them around to a fun project or game so they can learn the subject better. We don't always have to make boring projects or worksheets for the kids, we can make learning a fun thing with the kids to inspire them to learn more.
Don't teach your kids this stuff, please?
In Mr. McLeods blog, he argued that technology shouldn't be allowed in classrooms. The thing was is that there wasn't much of a argument from me, because I agree with him. I never used technology in the classroom to learn and we were never allowed phones and other technological items. The people that have created technology for kids didn't use it. How do I know that? Well if they hadn't of created it it would have never been created? Here's a link to Mr. Mcleods accomplishments.
I studied this picture for a while and didn't realized what point Mr. Spencer was trying to get at. Well the saying under the first guy says,"I'm a Papermate, I cost less, but I break all the time." This says to me that the papermate pencil is a little less expensive that the other but it breaks all the time. So you would have to buy more pencils and you would have to spend more money to buy more pencils. When on the other hand for the Ticonderoga Pencil, you can buy one and would last longer. The price for one Ticonderoga pencil would be more that papermate but you wouldn't have to buy as many. I guess you could use this in a situation of teaching, when you have a choice to go the cheaper way and have to do it more times, or go the long way and last a long time.
Why were your kids playing games?
In this blog post by Mr. John T. Spencer, he is showing a conversation about a principal and a teacher talking about a game that he/she has played in the classroom. The principal has decided that no more games should be played at school. They say that he/she should be doing school work like algorithmic worksheets and Jonestown Intervention worksheets. Then the teacher changed the whole thing around with a game that creates an algorithm factory and integrate it into our Conflict-Oriented Reading and Writing Project (a.k.a. The Factory Game). This means that we as teachers can use things that bore children and turn them around to a fun project or game so they can learn the subject better. Blog Post #9
Mr. McClung's World
On Mr. McClung's blog post "What I Learned This Year (2011-2012)", he starts off saying that he hasn't learned much this year as he has the last couple years as a teachers. He said that he has learned to main this year though and has named them, "You Gotta Dance With Who You Came to the Dance With" and "Challenge Yourself." In "You Gotta Dance With Who You Came to the Dance With," he explains that through his 2 years as an educator he has realized that he has never worried about what his peers thought of him as a teacher. He has always worried whether or not the kids were having a good time learning. He explained how the approval of fellow colleagues have put stress on him. He said that it has never done anything positive for him, but making sure that taken care of and enjoying class has done wonders for him. He said that he should always remember who he really worked for and wouldn't want to stray down the wrong path. This has really made me think about how I should start and finish my career as a teacher and how I should try and help the students rather than make a big name for myself in front of my peers. On his second post I read "What I Learned This Year (2010-2011)", he talks about keeping his students attention rather than the administration. If we give our administration too much attention we would leave our students out of the picture. Here's one quote from the article, "Our decision making process should always be student centered and not centered around pleasing adults." Another moral lesson in this post is that we cannot allow others to stifle your own excitement and joy that you experience in teaching or any other facet of life for that matter and how the teaching landscape is full of individuals that once had a fire and excitement for the profession but somewhere along the way they joined the darkside. He continues on to talk about a similar topic to the last two sentences about how we need to be ourselves in front of the students and to not go to the "darkside." We shouldn't fall into the typical stereotype of teachers. One topic he talked about was to never touch the keyboard. Which can be summed up to never do the work for them. Often times when we are teaching a task to a student and they are having difficulties completing the particular task, it is very easy to take over and basically do the work for them...because we can always do it better. However, the major issue with this is that if we do the work for the students then they will never fully master the skills. No matter how difficult it may be we must resist the urge to take control of the keyboard.

Richard Miller
In this 1st video, Richard Miller is showing us how he has used technology to create a book that his students use for there education. I believe he said that it cost 3 dollars to buy it off the internet. He is trying to show me and others as future teachers that we will have to use to technology no matter what grade we are teaching. I believe that he is preparing the elementary and younger grades that wouldn't be known for having technology, that we will be using it also even though we wouldn't think that it would be needed for our grade.
In our near future as educators, Ipads will replace books in the classroom. Ipads will stop the use of paper and save a lot of trees and the wildlife living in them. This technology will completely change the way children learn, through their resources for learning. This may or may not have a impact on the ecosystem and wildlife. I believe if I explain to them how we are saving paper and other resources, it will show them a care for others around them and the things that no one ever thinks about.
In the 2nd video, he goes over a way of showing news, videos and all other sorts of multimedia that is known throughout the nation/world. It is a page that shows market prices and presidential speeches all on the same thing. I think that before long the world will have to get its news from technology. This would remove the need for newspaper and TV.

Well in Carly's blog, she writes a lot on how she wants her children to be creative and use creativity to do her work for her class. The only real way that you can accomplish creativity is through technology for your resources. Richard has showed the same want for technology in the classroom.

In this blog post, we are to discuss ideas of videos we would like to create or participate in creating. I have a couple of ideas that I would like to create or participate in creating. One of them is creating educational videos on how to use certain technology, such as "SmartBoard for Dummies." I would make this an instructional video on how to use the smartboard and the FAQ's for this project and answer them. The other would be a basic outline on different things to put in your future or current classroom that would help them class to be a better learning and social environment.

Well this video title pretty much explains itself. As teachers we must learn to change from our old teachings and use the new technology we have now a days and use it to change the way we learn. All the arguments in this video is trying to persuade new and old teachers to use the technology out there and use it change the whole way of teaching the children. Technology will be used to change the teacher to the helper, which helps them to learn by themselves.

For the first of the 3 of 5 topics, we were to find a social network for teachers. I look through the site and immediately found Emodo.com. On Emodo, it is pretty much like facebook, your schedule, groups of people like you with ideas, calenders, and even badges that your students have earned. It's kind of like Sakai for our school where teachers can post test, assignments, and quiz's where kids can see them and communicate with teacher through the web. You can create a teacher or student account for this site also.

For the third one, I chose the video tool Animoto.com, there are tons and tons of special features/ features that is available. A couple features which are simple is the app thats available for both andriod and apple products, and has HD Resolution. Then there is the pro features. Unlimited videos. Highest resolution. Exclusive styles. Twice the music library. Commercial license. Custom branding options. Call-to-action features. Then the best part of this site is the fact that you can edit and fix videos with there "video engine" tool.

Richard Byrne's "A Quick Guide To Whiteboard Interactive"
In Richard's blogpost, "A Quick Guide to Using Interactive Whiteboards", he tells us tips and starts others on using whiteboard interactive. It's a piece of technology that some teachers in the U.S. are already using. In the first part of the blog he explains the different tools there is on the white board, such as the pen/eraser, selection tool, text box, and then shapes. These are the basics of whiteboard interactive. The question I asked Mr. Byrne was, "What are some different things we can do on Whiteboard Interactive, than the ones you have posted here, or is this the only thing you can do on there?"

You can explore the maps by selecting a data set and then a display format. You can also choose to display the data for all countries or only the countries that you wish to compare. You can use this technology to compare the data sets of multiple categories. This technology would be great for classes in world geography and etc. The question I asked Mr. Byrne's was "What grade would you say is appropriate for this site?"

Randy Pausch Last Lecture
In the video, Randy talked about different lessons and techniques that he has learned throughout his career in academics. He revolved his whole career around something that he had dreamed about since he was a child. These things have helped him learn those techniques and lessons. There one one technique he spoke about that I feel would be the most important and that is the "Fundamentals." The reason why these are so important is because it gives the children or whoever you are teaching the baseline to revolve around and to add what they have learned too. Without these there would be no backbone to work off of.
There were some lessons he learned in his career and one of the was that when you are doing something bad or wrong and no one helps you or yells at you to correct it then they don't care about you. This really spoke out to me and my future as a teacher. If I am so careless to where I do not correct or teach these children through trial and error techniques and showing them its ok to be wrong sometimes, but you have to correct them. This would show the kids that I cared and tried to put them on the best route to a successful life and career. Another lesson was there are good and bad ways to say certain things. It's all according to how you say is how it influences the child. You can tell a child no in a way that will still encourage them. Last lesson I have wrote down is "Wait, and people will surprise you."If we are having trouble with kids or people we need to be patient and the problem will surprise you. Another important thing to keep in mind for teachers is being a good role model and being the leader of the group. For example, an army won't fight to well without their captain. The room will be a crazy room if there is no leadership or role model for them to rely on. Another thing that he said was to teach the children by letting them learn things indirectly, such as kids at football don't just learn how to play football, but they learn about teamwork and discipline. We as teachers can use this technique by using group work, and showing them teamwork, leadership, and social skills.
Through this whole video I have learned a lot to use with teaching and even life, but there was two things that really stuck and hit me. One was having something to bring to the table. This meant to me that I need to have something to teach something that the kids have never heard before and things that interest them to carry on with their future education. The second thing, but the best was a quote to use when telling them about their work. It went like this, "This is good, but I know you can do better." This probably wouldn't effect some kids, but in future events or work it will make them want to do their job or school work better and help to be more successful in life.

PLN Project #9
1st Post Summary
In this project, I created my very own PLN. I used the website Symbaloo which is were you add different sites or apps that are all on one page. For my page, I added a couple of my social networks such as Facebook, and Twitter. I added the different sites I use for my EDM310 class so that I have all the websites that I use for this class. My PLN is great to help me keep up with my class and have everything at my fingertips.

C4KSummary for February
Justin
For my C4K assignment, I had Justin in a 9th Grade World History class. He wrote a blog on setting goals, and how to accomplish your goals. He had a 6 step process to accomplishing goals. The example he used is the idea of losing weight. The blog is summarized like this. The 1st step is coming to the idea to look better. The 2nd step is being more specific with your idea, such as losing weight. The 3rd step is making your goal possible or measurable, such as "I want to lose 10 kg." The 4th step is making your goal achievable by making small steps to achieve your goal. The 5th goal is making your goal realistic by considering you time, family, resources, and finances. Finishing the goal we need to give ourselves a time frame with a start and finish date.
I agreed with him on his ideas and steps but I made a few suggestions to him by making the goals we choose push our limits a little. One way we could do this is by adding a few more pounds or making a shorter time frame. We wouldn't want to push our limits too far to where we quit it before we finish.

For this weeks C4K, I commented on J. Denver's blog about a friend of his named Liam. It was a short blog, after reading others he has wrote I understood that he has taken a liking to blogging. So during my comment, I told him that it was very interesting that he has likes to blog so much. The thing is though that he needs to write a little more explaining his friend more. I really tried to encouraged him to continue blogging though.
Room 6 Paikea and Skye
For this weeks post, I had to leave a comment for Paikea and Skye from New Zealand on their Little Voices, Little Scholars page. I just commented and told them both to keep up the good work and that I hoped to see more posts from them. For the entire class, I told them all to keep up the good work on their blog and that I would be hoping to see more blog posts from them all.

Her blog post titled "Self-Expression", she talks about how she expresses herself. She can express herself through her style of dressing, and the way she writes. I told her to give more thorough examples in the way she expresses herself, such as what type of clothes would she wear to express her personality.

Why Do We Need Teachers?
In the video, The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler, it goes through a "story" of a young man who is writing a paper on the subject of American Psyche. It goes through the steps of him finding good quality information that is credited and shows ways that he can get different opinions through other students blogs, and teachers blogs. He learned that the blogs can usually tell peoples opinions about American Psyche. There were a few things that the student did to show others where he acquired information about this subject through sites like delicious, and dingo. He found different recordings and videos from professional teachers that have information about the American Psyche. He used Skype in one section to have a video conference with a professional on the subject also.
The real question about this video is "Why Do We Need Teachers?" As I watched the first part of the video, I never heard him say the teacher taught him this or that. He used his knowledge of the internet to find all this this information. This doesn't mean that he doesn't need a teacher. She is the one who offers him guidance when he gets stuck, shows him how to communicate properly and ask respectively for information from others, shows him how to know the difference between good and bad information, and so on. So really all this wouldn't be possible unless a teacher had informed him on how to use the internet or how to find things on the internet. This kind of stuff isn't given to you through genetics.
So I guess my argument is that teachers are the root of all knowledge that students have. I mean they can't just go out and eat books and know how to do things. They have to be taught to give them a start on how to learn. Some teachers such as Dr. Strange, are teaching students to learn on their own. They give them different sites and different projects to learn mistakes and to teach them how to learn and find information. So I guess my answer to the question, "Why do we even need teachers?", is Heck Yes You DO! We must always be there to keep them on the right track and keep them doing their learning properly.
7th Graders PLN
In this video, a young girl is talking about how she uses technology to do school work for her classes. She goes through how she finds information and posts to her blog and different social networks. The things she does is awesome, and would be a blast to do with teachers that you technology to teach class. The only thing is is getting computers, and internet to kids. I know that we are in the 21st century, but not everyone has a smart phone, internet, and even computers. Also, the grade level I am going to school to teach is probably not literate enough in technology to know how to use the computer. So my question about this blog is "If they all do have computers, are they all going to know how to use this technology?"

Filamentality combines the "filaments of the web" with your "mentality" allowing you to create a variety of formats that meet your personal or learner needs. According to the website, this tool can be used by teacher, a student, a media specialist / librarian, or a trainers. The website also has FAQs, and ways that you can add your own web pages. There are tons of ways that you can find information on this page and ways you can create information for other people. I chose this site because of the ways that you can learn from others blogs and communicate with others. You can click on Filamentality to find the website to start.

In Krissey Venosdale's "If I Built A School," she starts out with how she would love to create her own school. She starts out with the baseline for school, the motto "Welcome: Now Entering an Innovation Zone." She states that it would be a neon sign that innovation would stand out more than the other words. She done this to say that the kids better know when they get there they better get ready for some change in knowledge and their lives. She goes on to explain how she wants it to be "oozing" with creativity. ONe major factor in this blog is the curriculum she wants for her school. She wants it to loose to run wild, but she wants this to let her kids explore what they want to do in life. She wants them to dig deep in their future careers and find out what they love and what keeps them interested. She showed her care for the community by putting a large whiteboard to allow people and parents from the community to say thank you or have ideas for the school. One of the last two things she really talks about is how she would put an aquarium for the kids to explore and those who want to know about marine biology could learn from watching and pondering about the fish. Lastly she says one thing that every kid in America would love to hear and that is no STATE TEST!!!! She wants the kids to be there to learn and read about things and truly love what they are learning about and remember that information forever.
All of this is good and I love her ideas, but I would do the school a little different. Well firstly, my sign on the front door would say, "If you don't want to learn, Stay HOME!" I know. It's kind of catchy, and I would probably not have any students. I think this would open their eyes to let them know when they come to my school they are going to learn. Then my school would set up in departments. For each department, I would have large building for every one of them. It would sort of be like a college, but each building would connect in a way to make it into one large school. The departments would "ooze" with information props (such as aquariums, physics labs, libraries and historical museum replicas.) In other words, each department would have hands on objects that you could look at and learn better. The curriculum would probably have the same outline as today's school curriculums.
Reaction to Virtual Choir
I just watched Eric Whitacker's Virtual Choir, and it was pretty awesome. I am amazed that the creator of this found out how to get the singers in unison like he did. The thing that puzzled me is that these people have never met in their entire life. You can say my reaction to the use of internet in this video is that it is amazing. This video does post a question in my mind. That question is how many times did they have to do this to get them in unison like they did? What if they had internet problems, how do they fix that? As amazed as I am with video, I am just concerned with the trial and error. This problem would be solved if they were all in just one place.

In the video teaching in the 21st Century, he put forward a point of the children teaching themselves through the internet. It had a lot of points that had google, twitter, facebook, and social networks that has a way of communication with people across the world. The kids would have the questions of everyday life, but they would rely on the internet to learn about them. They were the type of question that teachers could not answer for them. Well this video made me feel like in the future of teaching school, teachers would not be needed very much. The only type of teaching you would need is computer teachers, and others that taught about new technology.I guess I kind of over exaggerated the point of not needing teachers, but it means that everything would be online. Students would get their curriculum online and follow guidelines to learn the things they needed to know for their grade. Eventually, the only thing teachers would need to do is post the curriculum, and just be there for simple questions. So I guess in my near future that I am going to learn more about technology and how to use it.

Special Blog Post #1
WolfranAlpha App
In the search on WolfranAlpha App I searched for the education comparison of China, India and the US. I found that even though China and India have more people than the US, the use has more people that go to college. The percentage of people that started out in primary school and went to college had a slower decline than both countries combined. This is a perfect example of how we can use this app to compare things for projects for our students or anyone we teach in the future. This would be a great app for group projects in all sorts of subjects.
The Count
After looking at the Count and seeing all the increases in sales on certain phones, youtube videos being watched or liked, Facebook statuses/pictures being liked, and etc. We can see here that the use of technology in everyday lives will never stop increasing in numbers, especially if new technology is being invented.
I believe that this increase in use of technology, will effect the way we learn new things to teach children. The way that we find information or learn new information. It would effect the use of a classroom through skype or other internet video chats. I think that peoples increase in knowledge about technology will make it to where we can have class through online streaming. We'll never have to leave our homes.

Marshmallow Building Teams
In this blog by Mark Hardeman, he has a group project in which teacher at his meetings use marshmallow and sticks to build things with. The reason for the marshmallow project is to help the teachers with their time management, team building, telling it's okay to make mistakes, learning from those mistakes, setting reachable goals, and to just have fun doing what they are doing. There were a few more things this project taught them, but I believe these will help them more with teaching and their future in teaching. I began to think about how this project would help students as well. I think it would help them with their communication, and doing a fair amount of work in the group their in.

Podcasting
This blog on teaching with podcasting has inspired to me as a "teacher in learning" to learn by doing it themselves. One example during the blog was when the children actually made their own audio book to follow along with and to listen to the way they read to correct mistakes. There are so many different ways that you can use this to teach so many subjects from kindergarten to 12th grade. I believe that the way podcasting at an early age is teaching the kids to learn on their own on certain subjects. The best subject that podcasting would influence the best learning experience is the language classes. These would be classes like Spanish, French, and etc. They would be able to record there own voice and correct or see how they say different words in different languages.

Blog Post #3
Peer Editing
After watching the video “What is Peer Editing” I began to realize that teachers use a similar format when grading papers I wrote in my past schooling. Also, I was happy because it was short and to the point. I realized that when we comment on our classmates blogs, that we should comment encouraging words as well as correctional suggestions. During the whole period, we still have to stay positive. It helped me realize that this whole time of commenting on other people’s blogs, that I’ve been doing it wrong the whole time.
I especially like the video with the children going over the steps in peer editing, and the many different ways that we or the person whose paper we edited react to peer editing. I’ve never seen or had people like Mean Margaret or some of the others when it comes to editing, but I’d imagine that there are people like them. I would rate myself as the one that didn’t really care about his paper or editing his partners, but that was in my past during high school. Now I care and try to stay positive when editing papers.
The Mountbatten
In this video, I learned something that shocked me, and it was that young children were teaching senior citizens who were impaired on how to use certain technology. I never realized the amount of technology that was out there to help the visually impaired and deaf. I always wondered how they made the braille also. This subject has really opened up my eyes on how to treat and help these types of people.

In these videos, I have really learned an issue that hardly ever is recognized. This is teaching the blind or visually impaired. I never really thought of learning math or algebra without having my vision. The video on teaching math to the blind really is focusing in on making certain jobs that require mathematics and knowledge available to them. I really believe that in the near future that levels of math higher than pre-algebra will be met and be available to the blind.
Some other issues that are shown in the last two videos are ways that the blind can learn on their own. One thing that technology has for the blind is from Apple’s Ipad. The Ipad can speak out loud what the person is touch or what app their finger is currently on. They can listen to eBooks and learn stories that are required for students in high school and college. The most impressive thing of all is that they can learn all this on their own.

They would find new ways to add things to virtual worlds, or learn how to write a blog or twitter. I find that these methods of teaching would help the kids or who ever is learning it teach themselves.
It would help in every subject in school, such as, math, English or whatever class they have. If they had a problem with math they could look the problem up on the internet. The same things go for other subjects, too. There are thousands of sites online that you can look up problem or subjects to help you in school. The reason why I know is because I have done the same thing myself in Calculus. These classes help children to think that there is always help or to use critical thinking to solve problems.

Did You Know
In our country today, educators of the nations seem to think technology is effecting our children's education. I think that most technology distracts our children more than it helps them: According to the video most children want to do things that are "fun" with the technology they have such as texting, you-tubing, or social networking - instead of using it according to the rules. The problem lies with the child's desire to learn. So the question is: How can we use technology to keep them interested in learning?
In the video, Doctor Strange referred to India having more "honor" students than the whole U.S.A. has students alone. I think with India being a country not as technologically advanced as the U.S., they have a bigger desire to learn, because they depend on technology less, and depend on education more. They have a smaller distraction in other words. In the U.S. we have phones, laptops, tablets, and the internet that get more of our attention. I think the problem could also possibly start at home.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
This video is portraying how technology over the last century has improved. We can have business meeting across the world, keep people alive with machines, and organize our life on a phone or tablet. It implies that our schools should be using technology to keep up with the outside world.
If we reflect for a while and ponder on how we are where we are today its because of schools without technology. People went to school and learned things to help invent technology for us today.
Creativity
This video has a lot of great topics on how our school systems are killing creativity. Instead of letting them expand their minds and finding out how they learn, all of the kids are doing the same thing over and over again. The story that caught my attention was about the young girl who learned by dancing and being in motion. The school pushed her aside and said she was ADHD instead of embracing or accomodating her learning methods. This is a prime example of the schools being lazy. Another point he made that caught my attention is how important it is to let the children be creative at a young age, and letting them continue that creativity until they graduate. They can be creative by expanding their minds to broaden their knowledge on certain subjects. Also, letting them make mistakes, and learning from them.
Thoughts on Mr. Winkle
The video, Mr. Winkle Wakes, is about how we use our technology throughout the world in our everyday lives; such as computers,vehicles, solar technology, etc. My reaction is that we do not even realize how much and fast our technology is changing everyday. We have cars that run off solar power, and we have wifi.
I believe that sooner or later kids will not even have to be in the classroom to attend school. They will watch their class lecture from sites such as Skype and Facetime. Right now, there are homeschool programs such as Abeka that send DVDs for the children to watch. I believe that each child in America should be in a classroom with hands-on activities with pen to paper objectives. This is how they will learn the material and get the full learning experience.

On Pinterest, I chose boards such as, the board on education technology for beginners, which is what I am. The board on help with lesson plans is best, because of me being new to teaching. I chose the board with educational resources and to help live classes up, so I will have to liven a boring class up and to have help finding resources for education. Lastly I chose the board that focuses on Elementary technology, because I am going for Elementary Education and I figured it would be nice to have.

About Me
My name is Ethan Sumrall and I am 21 years old. I am married with no kids. I live in Lucedale, Ms, which is about a hour from the university. I attend church at Crossroads Free Pentecoastal Church and teach children's church and I am a commander in Royal Rangers. At Crossroads, I have went on mission trips to Mexico. My main interest is helping children and trying to bring more people to Christ while building my relationship with God.
My education consist of a Diploma from George County High School, and an Associates of the Arts degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. While I was at MGCCC, I was on the leadership team at the Baptist Student Union. I went on a mission trip to Peru and helped children in three villages while there. I would say that the opportunities I had to minister to children are what led me to elementary education.I wanted to teach kids, show them love, and be a great role model to them. My passion is about getting out and witnessing to people by showing them the love of Jesus Christ.
My Classroom
The way I will act in my classroom is simple. I will always be caring and listening to everyone. I will try my best to get to know a little about each student to be able to help them if they have home problems, learning problems, or behavior problems. As I do these things I want to gain respect from the kids by being stern, but with a gentle spirit. This will let them know I care about but is serious about my authority.
I know there are three types of ways that we learn: auditory, kinetic, and visual. While I'm teaching the required material I am going to try and incorporate all three materials. For example, in Math I would use a chocolate bar and divide it into 8 pieces and demonstrate the fractions. This would use all three methods. I will also try and figure out what type of learning methods the students react best too.
I presume the first few years as a teacher will be a major learning process for me learning how the children like or understand different methods or tools. Some tools I would really like to employ are hands on activities such as nature in science; we would go outside or to a museum or park nearby. I think examples and other similar tools will provide the best learning experience for the children and help them to remember things in the long run.
I want my classroom to provide an inviting atmosphere I want the kids I teach to enjoy coming to class and to not only have a learning experience, but to remember the material we learn for a long time. I would like to have fun learning games and inspirational quotes on the walls. This would encourage them and keep them focused.
Time Management
I have learned that the issue with most people is the way time is used and managed. The way we use our time effects our everyday tasks and our stress levels. Stress then effects our actions and the way we do everyday tasks.
There are different ways to planning your time correctly. We should always understand the relevance of our tasks., this way we can stay away from the things that are less important and focus on the more important things. This will help us to finish our daily requirements, but we should always remember to be flexible . We've all heard the saying "practice makes perfect!" When we make mistakes or lack in the department of time management, it's all a lesson learned.
